Why drink bottled water?

Why drink bottled water

Because it provides us all with a choice!

Convenient access to healthy hydration

Keeping yourself well hydrated at all times has obvious health benefits for the body and the mind. When you need to concentrate, at work or when driving for example, being well hydrated is the easiest way to stay sharp and on the ball.

Nearly half of all the bottled water we consume takes place away from home. In such contexts, bottled water provides easy and convenient access to water where it wouldn’t otherwise be readily available – a key benefit for those of us who seek the purity and simplicity of water in preference to alternative beverages, some of which may have a higher calorific content and higher carbon footprint.

No chemical treatment

Bottled water is often consumed in the home. The easy answer might be to drink tap water instead. But the reality is that many of us choose Bottled Water in preference to tap water.

Tap Water is water that has been collected from locations such as rivers, reservoirs and once treated it is then transported to point of use through a network of underground piping systems. Inevitably, it has to be chemically treated to ensure that it is safe to drink.

Once used, this water is then treated via effluent treatment plants before it is release back into the river system.

Natural Mineral Waters and Spring Waters are bottled under controlled conditions at their protected natural sources, and are subjected to continual quality checks to ensure their consistency and quality. They are not permitted to undergo any chemical treatment.

Taste

All tap water in the UK is chlorinated. For this reason, a subtle hint of a chlorine taste is sometimes noticeable when we drink water from the tap.

Natural Mineral Waters and Spring Waters cannot, under EU regulations, be chemically treated. This means that they taste as nature intended. Subtle differences in taste between brands can exist, because of the mineral contents created by the different geological characteristics of their sources.

Emergency

Bottled water is essential in many emergency situations and is often the only water source in natural disasters. In this case the easy storage, transportation and convenience can give bottled water a life saving role.

These emergencies can be close to home! During the heavy flooding that occurred during the summer in 2007, many homes in the UK were left without drinkable tap water. Fortunately, the bottled water industry, including ourselves was able to help. We were able to assist in supplying tens of millions of water bottles to the water authority concerned, this in order that it, in turn could provide safe, drinkable water to its customers.

Environmental and social responsibility

As highlighted in other sections of this site, we are active contributors to social and environmental protection initiatives.

Main characteristics of Bottled Water?

There are three main types of bottled water currently available; Natural Mineral Water, Spring Water and Table Water. Natural Mineral Water and Spring Water come from a single source and are much more highly regulated than Table Water. In Europe, neither Natural Mineral Water nor Spring Water are chemically treated and both are bottled at source. Table Water on the other hand can come from more than one source; this can include water from the main water supply and is subjected to a series of chemical and filtration treatments.
