Our pledge on CO2

Our products come from nature and we know we owe everything to nature - whether it is the milk from our cows or the fruits we have in our yogurts. That’s why at Danone, we want to significantly reduce our impact on the environment. We have pledged to reduce our carbon footprint on our direct responsibility scope by 30% between 2008 and 2012. This is an ambitious target but we have already achieved over 20% reduction and are on track to hit our target of a 30% reduction.

The 3 key areas, over which we have direct control, are production, transport and packaging. Our aim is to provide best-in-class programmes to reduce our impact in all of these areas.

Our new Actimel bottle is one of our main achievements helping us reduce our carbon footprint. Find out more in the Packaging section.

What does carbon footprint mean?

A carbon foot print is defined by the Carbon Trust as 'the total set of GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions caused directly and indirectly by an individual, organisation, event or product’.

Our Carbon footprint is measured based on the entire lifecycle of our products from the raw materials to your enjoyment from the fridge.
